Butternut Squash

This little gem is a nutritional powerhouses, and a true winter comfort food.

Acne & eczema

The colour of the beautiful bright-orange flesh comes from a group of compounds called carotenoids, fat-soluble antioxidants that will move into the lower layers of the skin quite quickly. Their localized anti-inflammatory activity can reduce the redness of lesions such as eczema and acne. They also help protect collagen fibres from damage, and so are a great anti-ageing ingredient.

Heart & circulation

Carotenoids can also reduce the oxidation of fatty compounds such as bad (LDL) cholesterol. This biochemical process is known to damage the blood vessels. These damaged areas get plugged with cholesterol and scar tissue, and heart disease ensues. Reducing the oxidation gives some reduction in risk.
