Bananas are very high in an amino acid called tryptophan, which is converted into the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain. This neurotransmitter helps regulate sleep patterns.

Bananas are very high in potassium. This helps buffer the effects of salt on the body, which include contraction of the blood vessels and increased fluid retention, all of which cause an increase in blood pressure. Sodium-potassium balance is an important part of managing blood pressure. Of course, it’s not as simple as just eating a banana, and then everything is tickety-boo; it’s just a great example of an good food to include in your diet.
