The Margerine Myth |

You've heard it all before.....'look after your heart - eat this margerine or that spread'. 'Butter will kill you'...yadda yadda.
The truth of the matter is, margerines are one of the worst things you can put in your body!!
"But Dale, we all know that saturated fats cause all kinds of disease, why on Earth would I choose butter over marg"?
Its all about hydrogenated fats! Margerines are made from vegetable oils right? But, vegetable oils are liquid unless they become incredibly cold, so how come they are solid in your tube of marg? Manufacturers bubble hydrogen through them in order to chemically change their structure so that they will become a solid. Now, when these types of fats are cosnumed, they are basically unrecognisable by the body. This causes them to be deposited in all sorts of tissues, afffecting their functioning. And, ironically, there is now a fourfold risk of heart disease from hydrogenated fats over regular saturated fats. It is 100% true that over consumption of saturated fats is incredibly detrimental to our health, but in moderation, at least our bodies know what to do with them and how to handle them.
It is worth pointing out, that many vegetable oils, when in their natural liquid state are indeed heart healthy!
