Superfoods labelling ban |

Superfoods will soon be governed by new legislation coming into action in the UK. This will prevent foods being labelled as superfoods without a very specific reason and definition as to why. Now this is great news as far as I am concerned. I am a hardcore advocate of REAL superfoods such as cacao, shiitake mushrooms, spirulina, and goji berries. I saw on the F word last week that someone for some reason way beyond my comprehension had labelled turkey as a superfood. Thats one I really cant understand! Also things like salmon and spinach had been labelled as such. Yes these are certainly healthy foods with some great nutrients in them. But they arent exactly super.
In my opinion the definition of a superfood is something that delivers benefits that exceed that of their mere nutritional content alone. Foods that profoundly influence our health and physiology in ways that other foods of a similar type cannot.
What do you think the definition is? Leave a comment and let us know!
