Dips and Sauces
Living humous |
I am a a self confessed humoholic (its tough, but im dealing with it gradually). I can eat the stuff all day long. I created this version as I wanted to take this already highly nutritious food onto the next level. By adding sprouted seeds, I achieved just that. I love this with crunchy raw celery, oat cakes, or kryptonian crackers.
Recipe
One cup of cooked chick peas (tinned are ok if there are time constraints)
Half a cup of sprouted sunflower seeds (the Aconbury sprouts ones are awesome!!)
Half a cup of tahini (raw is best, but not essential)
1 large clove of garlic
1 Tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil
1 Tablespoon of hemp oil
Generous pinch of Himalayan crystal salt
Method
Simply throw everything into a food processor, and blitz into a lovely smooth paste. Its so simple, your hamster could do it!
Therapeutic Benefits
Chick Peas
These are a wonderful source of dietary fibre, not to mention vital minerals such as calcium, and an array of B vitamins. They also contain the trace element molybdenum, which amongst other things enables the body to detoxify sulphites, that are often found in cured meats and wine (if you are partial to a bacon sarnie, take note!!).
Sprouted Sunflower Seeds
Anything sprouted becomes a vast sea of nutrition. When seedss sprout (early stage of germination) their nutritional profile becomes greatly concentrated in order to facilitate the seeds' growth. This gives us a food with masses of bioavailable protein. THere is also a very high essential fatty acid content to these seeds, and a whole host of minerals, especially zinc which is great for immunity, sexual function, and wound healing.
