Can you help someone who suffers chronic health anxiety? Any help or advice would be helpful as things are getting desperate. Thanks.

Hi

The most reliable thing that I have come across in the context of dietary intervention, is the omega 3 fatty acids. These have been the subject of countless clinical trials, and have been shown to influence mood considerably. They basically regulate cell membrane function within the central nervous system – so basically make nerve cells better at manufacturing neurotransmitters like the feel good chemical serotonin, and also make other nerve cells better at receiving the signals sent by serotonin. This can certainly have a notable impact on mood in general.

Other areas of interest are the b vitamins as they can function as muscle relaxants and also regulate the manufacture of neurotransmitters (alongside omega 3, magnesium, vitamin D, etc).

Id say increase oily fish intake to 3-4 times per week plus go for an EPA and DHA supplement, and also increase your intake of whole grains and leafy greens.

Diet is only one part of the picture when dealing with anxiety, and in my opinion only represents symptomatic management, but the above recommendations may help take the edge off of things.

Hope this helps

Many thanks for the info and apologies for not replying sooner.

If omegas are taken in tablet form, what dosage do you suggest?

Again, thank you.
